There should be some kind of divine law that says that babies under a certain age will not get sick! Although, I’m not really sure that there would be any age that I would want my children to start getting sick… so I guess that won’t work. Bummer.
It’s just so rough when they are little and they just don’t understand why they feel so yucky! And they look at you with those sad eyes like “why won’t you make me feel better”? It breaks a momma’s heart I tell ya!
Needless to say, this week has been a rough one. Both of my girls have had this nasty cold that apparently is sweeping the nation, because everyone I know is getting it too! And there isn’t really much you can do for a cold other than let it run its course. But obviously you want to help relieve some of the pressure and pain that they feel because of the cold. My girls usually love to take ibuprofen or tylenol. They seriously think it’s candy and after taking it will say, “mmmmmm,” and ask for more! 🙂 Well not this time folks! For some reason they now will absolutely refuse to take it at all! And I know they’ll sleep better with it so I try all the tricks I can think of to get them to take it and still nothing! And if I am able to sneak it in their mouths they spit it out all over the place and then I have a sticky mess to clean up. It usually ends up with them throwing a fit and so upset that they are now more stuffy and snotty and congested than they were before I even tried to give them the medicine!
Anyways… I knew that the tylenol or ibuprofen wasn’t going to help them with the coughing fits they were starting to have, but most cough medicines are not suited for children as little as mine. So, we were up all night long, all week long, rocking, and comforting, and sleeping in the chair in their room because the coughing fits would not stop.
Until! My wonderful husband went to the store and found this wonderful, all natural medicine! It’s called Zarbee’s Naturals Children’s cough syrup & mucus! It has dark honey and ivy leaf extract. It helps to soothe their throat and clear out mucus! Holler! I was so excited to give it a try! But I still had to convince my little stinkers to take it! Which still proved to be difficult because, hello, it’s brown, and does not look appetizing. But, after some sneaky distractions and some stealthy moves, I got them both to take some! People, this stuff was awesome! Their first dose I gave to them during the day and they both seemed to perk up a little and were definitely not coughing as much! I gave them another dose before bed and we were able to get longer stretches of sleep!!! I mean, it was no miracle drug that made them sleep through the night, but we weren’t up every hour anymore!
I highly recommend having this stuff on hand if you have littles! Although, it is still not safe for babies under 12 months because of the honey. But you knew that. 😉
While I sincerely hope that your babies do not get this nasty cough and cold, if they do, run to the store and get some of this goodness!
Hope you have a fabulous week!
