Well, I’ll get straight to it this week. I lost 2 pounds! Buuuuuut, I also gained two pounds. So, I’m still in the same place I was last week, and the week before that. Bummer. Although, this week I don’t feel as frustrated about it. It’s my own fault and I know it. I did it to myself. My eating at the end of last week and through the weekend was awful. Let me just tell you about it…
Thursday night was book club and I was hosting this month. (We read “The Nightingale” by Kristen Hannah, in case you’re interested. It was really good and I definitely recommend it!) The story took place in France during WWII and I wanted the refreshments to kind of go along with the book. So I made these really yummy French pastries called canales. Surprisingly they turned out really good, but they are not so good for you! Lots of milk, sugar and flour! Eeeek! I also had some French Macaroons there too. I only had a couple but still, it was more sugar than my body needed.
Friday night I was just plain lazy and didn’t want to cook so we got pizza. Yeah, I definitely regret that one. It wasn’t even that good.
Saturday we decided to go down to D.C. for the day and go through a museum. It was lots of fun and we got lots of walking in which was great. However, we didn’t plan ahead very well and didn’t have ice packs or anything to take healthy food with us for lunch, so we grabbed some fast food in the museum. That was not good either.
Sunday afternoon we ate the leftover pizza from Friday… You’d think I’d learned my lesson.
So, needless to say, I was feeling pretty awful after the weekend. I knew without even getting on the scale that I had gained weight. But, just to know where I was at, I did get on the scale Monday morning. I had gained 2 pounds and I was ready to get rid of it fast!
Since Sunday I’ve been back on track with my eating and I’ve kicked it up a notch with my workouts. Luckily it’s been pretty nice the last few days and I’ve also gotten out and gone on walks with the girls.
One of my favorite things I’ve eaten over the last few days is oatmeal for breakfast. I Haven’t had oatmeal for a while but I kept it simple and it was delicious! I cooked the oatmeal in some unsweetened vanilla almond milk and then added a little honey and these cacao nibs that I had found at Home Goods! The cacao nibs were something I haven’t tried before and I loved them. They don’t melt like regular chocolate does but they added a nice chocolaty crunch to my oatmeal. It was just the chocolate fix that I needed! If you can’t find them at your Home Goods or grocery store you can get these organic raw cacao nibs on Amazon.
I also tried this Brussels Sprout salad that I found on Pinterest from ……. It was really easy and it was different from the same old salad I’ve been having lately. I just added some grilled chicken to it and ate it for lunch for a few days!
As of this morning, those two pounds were gone already. It is frustrating to think that those two pounds would’ve been even better had I not gained them over the weekend. But I’m not going to beat myself up about it. I’m proud of myself for getting back on the horse right away and getting it taken care of. In the past I would have moped about it and taken my sweet time to make any changes. But I am in a better place right now. I know that there are going to be times where things aren’t going to be perfect or easy and you have to make do. It’s getting back up and moving forward that’s important. And I’m all about finding the balance. We all deserve to indulge every now and then and have a treat. We just have to be in a place where we know how far to go, and how to control ourselves. I don’t think I’m in that place mentally and emotionally yet, but I know I can get there and I think that helps me to just keep on going.
I have felt a difference in my attitude from last week. Putting up those quotes and sayings has really helped. And I know this week can be even better!
My goal this week is to find more healthy foods that I can enjoy with my family.
What are your goals this week?
